Woodcutters get the … Chop

The splendidly named Woodcutters were wielding the willow at Spring Lane this past weekend. Sadly, for them at least, GCC were well up to the task at hand and did some felling of their own. A brief log* follows…

GCC were batting when I arrived and our openers had charitably left the stage to Will & Ferg. Chips** were not much in evidence as some pretty reasonable bowling was being solidly dismissed over the verdant outfield. Ferg followed Will to a fifty before GCC’s wray’ning Master Blaster reached a maiden century by scurrying a sharp single when on 99. Clearly unused to celebrating such a milestone, Will first raised his glasses before Ferg pointed out that raising a bat was more customary. After Ferg obliging missed a straight one while the cameraman was still functional, Phil embarked upon his now customary cameo but this time with spectacular effect as the Woodcutters’ offerings were dispatched Woods-wards.

Following a Marquee-less Tea, Jake and HPM set about the Woodcutters batters and the GCC fielders with some gusto. Three of the former and one of the latter had departed the field by the time my battery and the rosé expired. So I’m afraid the latter half of GCC’s surge to the Green Man has not been documented…
